  1. Saturday Night & Sunday Morning was a successful film because it was the first and arguably finest feature film directed by Czech-born Karel Reisz. It remains one of the most evocative and vibrant examples of Free Cinema, the movement which Reisz created along with other film producers. The films main character, Arthur Seaton, made the film more successful as his anti-hero, archetypal Angry Young Man, eptomised by his own advice of "Don't let the bastards grinf you down". this tyoe of character was succesful because
